Homans family papers, 1819-1946

Papers of the Homans family of Englewood, New Jersey and New York, New York, 1819-1946, consist primarily of family correspondence between editor and publisher Isaac Smith Homans and his son Isaac Smith, Jr., a civil engineer, publisher and editor concerning business, life at the Lawrence Scientific School, service with the U.S. Coast Survey, and his position with the Lexington and Big Sandy Railroad in Kentucky. Also includes correspondence between Isaac Smith Homans, Jr. and Martha Simmons Homans before and after they were married; business correspondence with William Moher in New York City; and correspondence between Simmons sisters and numerous family members. Subjects include family matters and news, descriptions of visits with family and friends, and social engagements. Included is a diary of Mattie Homans, 1878, 1881, while at school in Springfield, Mass., newspaper clippings, genealogical material, lot plans, and printed material.
